Introduction to Small Groups Small groups are an essential part of the life of HCF because we all need to belong somewhere, to someone, and in a large church this becomes even more crucial. A small group is the place you can call home, where you can build lasting relationships with people who learn to love and care for you as you are, and where you learn to accept and share the lives of others.
Apart from friendship and the sharing of lives, small groups are a place where the power of God can touch you and change you. Proverbs 27.17 says that, "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another" and so living together as brothers and sisters in Christ we are not only loved, but challenged to move forward and closer to God. As we begin to serve in the body of Christ, our lives are overwhelmed with a sense of purpose and destiny. God is so big and has called each of us to a task and it’s in our meeting together that we spur one another onwards. Hebrews 10 verse 24 & 25: "Let us be concerned for one another, to help one another to show love and to do good. Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing. Instead, let us encourage one another all the more, since you see that the Day of the Lord is coming nearer."
Flavours of Small Groups At HCF there are many different small groups, each with a flavour of their own. Some have a strong emphasis on biblical teaching, while others are more social and focussed around building relationships. Some groups include a broad spectrum of ages, while many groups are more age specific e.g. youth/single and young married couples with little kids. Some groups may be structured around a particular emphasis e.g. a specific community service or meeting the needs of women in business. Most groups meet every two weeks, some less frequently, and times of day vary greatly. Although the majority of groups meet in people’s homes, some meet in external venues. Want to join a Small Group? If you’re interested in joining a small group or just talking to someone about it, your best course of action would be to pay a visit to the visitor’s lounge after any Sunday service. There you will find someone to chat with over a cup of tea or coffee, and a slice of cake. The visitor’s lounge is located on the righthand side at the front of the main auditorium. If you know which group you’re interested in, you could simply contact the leader directly. Alternatively, contact details can be found on the small group photo board, situated on the back wall of the main auditorium. And finally, a call to the church office will also set you off in the right direction. We encourage people to find exactly the right group where they feel at home. This may mean that you need to visit several groups before you hit on the right one, so please feel free to move around until you find your 'fit'. |
