Who We Are Print E-mail

History
Hillcrest Christian Fellowship began in 1984. After outgrowing various venues in the community we purchased and developed our present property, an old mushroom farm, in 1987. The church opened its school "Hillcrest Christian Academy," in 1994.
In 2000, the Eldership Team received a word from God to "Build for the Harvest" - the church responded with excitement and generosity, which saw the new building completed in 2005.

Who we are
It’s hard to put into words what makes a local church a local church. Every church is, of course, different, though we might all believe the same Bible. There are certain 'flavours' and emphases that make HCF different from other churches ... not that one is right or another is wrong ... no, just what makes us ... us.
The first thing that gives us reason for existence is God's specific call to us and we have tried to capture that in a simple statement: "We exist to be a Biblical community that, through Christlikeness, transforms neighbours and nations."
What are some of the 'flavours' you can encounter at HCF?

  1. An emphasis on the Bible
    1. We want to be as biblically accurate as we possibly can, in both preaching and practice.
    2. We promote change motivated by a desire to become more biblically accurate.
  2. Emphasis on youth and children
    1. HCF was 'born' through a prophetic word to look after the 'lambs'.
    2. The children’s ministry operated before any corporate meetings.
  3. Emphasis on worship
    1. Part of that Prophesy was a call to worship.
    2. Whether our worship is good or bad will be for you to judge … but our desire cannot be faulted. This is what we live for … to worship the King.
  4. An emphasis away from weirdness
    1. We think spirituality is widely misunderstood and is not made up of ‘spiritual’ actions or idiosyncrasies.
    2. True spirituality is becoming more like Christ.
    3. We keep our feet firmly on the ground and don’t encourage ‘weirdness’ veiled in spirituality.
  5. Emphasis on grace
    1. If you are a legalist who specializes in pointing out how far we, or others, are off 'the mark' ... we are the wrong church for you.
    2. Here at HCF we know that we are all fallible human beings and that everyone is at a certain stage in their journey of Christlikeness.
    3. Not only do we enjoy unlimited grace from Christ but we give it to each other.
  6. Emphasis on 'coffee'
    1. We focus on relating.
    2. There are no unlisted phone numbers or pastor's lounges.
    3. We are all in this together ... we are family.
    4. We want to connect... we want to enjoy one another’s friendship.

If you understand these points you've got a 'taste' of who HCF is.
Besides all that, we are eldership-led and submit to the Apostolic Team of
NCMI (New Covenant Ministries International). Thanks for looking in ... we look forward to meeting you in person.
